Paseo de Santiago, Iligan City

Paseo de Santiago, Iligan City

About Paseo de Santiago

Overlooking the scenic Iligan Bay, Paseo de Santiago is one of the city’s favorite spots to unwind and enjoy nature. This seaside park beautifully combines history and leisure, featuring the remains of Spanish-era fortifications alongside modern attractions. With its spacious grounds, ocean breeze, and stunning sunset views, Paseo de Santiago is a perfect place for families, friends, and solo travelers looking for both relaxation and heritage.

Paseo de Santiago

My Iligan City habal tour ended at the Paseo de Santiago. Since it's seaside, of course, it's by the beach, and the sound of the waves makes the area cosy with the cool breeze - a perfect spot to relax. Others would call it a "hangout area" where you can have a few bottles of beer and "ihaw-ihaw," with someone performing on the mini stage. The area is wide with an Instagrammable landscape which includes the gorgeous fortress, a wide map of the Philippines on the ground, and the statue of Lapu-Lapu on the other side. The perfect time to visit this place is at sunset. It is privately owned; thus, entrance fee of 30 pesos per head is being collected. Also, there are restaurants to dine.

How to Get to Paseo de Santiago

By Air: Book a flight from Manila to Laguindingan Airport. Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Air Asia have their regular flights to CGY. At the airport, ride in a van to the Integrated Terminal. And charter a habal-habal to Paseo de Santiago.

Getting Around Iligan City

Though it's pricey, I chose a habal-habal tour around Iligan City because it's more fun than commuting. Not only that, for four hours, I visited the other attractions, such as Maria Cristina Falls, Tinago Falls, and Mimbalot Falls. Plus, the driver/tour guide will bring you to the cheapest place to stay and recommend some of the best places to eat.

Summary

Whether you’re visiting for its historic charm, breathtaking views of the bay, or simply a peaceful escape, Paseo de Santiago offers a unique blend of culture and leisure in Iligan. It’s not just a park—it’s a reminder of the city’s past and a space where locals and travelers alike can gather, reflect, and enjoy the beauty of Mindanao.
