About Siargao Island
Siargao Island, located in Surigao del Norte, is the surfing capital of the Philippines. It's famous for its laid-back vibe, crystal-clear waters, island hopping spots, and of course, Cloud 9 – one of the best surf breaks in Asia. Siargao is a must-visit for beach lovers and adventure seekers alike. If you're not into surfing, like me, you can still enjoy the pristine beaches, explorable caves, fresh surroundings, and unique island lifestyle. With time pressure from the province of Dinagat Islands, I travelled here to discover its beauty.
How to Get to Siargao
You can fly directly to Siargao via Sayak Airport (IAO) from Manila, Cebu, or Clark. Another option is to fly to Surigao City, then take a ferry to Dapa Port in Siargao.
- Option 1: Manila → Siargao (direct flight)
- Option 2: Manila → Surigao City → Ferry to Siargao
Siargao Tourist Spots (Things to Do)
- Surfing at Cloud 9 (even if you’re a beginner)
- Island hopping (Daku Island, Guyam Island, Naked Island)
- Sugba Lagoon kayaking and paddleboarding
- Magpupungko Rock Pools at low tide
- Visit the Maasin River and swing from the bent palm tree

Siargao Island Photos
Cloud 9 Boardwalk and View Deck
Our first destination was the Cloud 9 Boardwalk and View Deck - one of the most visited spots on the island. Entrance Fee: 50 pesos. The waves here are surfing-friendly, with a fresh sea breeze. Afraid of the waves? That's okay, you can just walk on the boardwalk and do an amazing photo shoot. This spot is picture-perfect in the afternoon because of the golden skyline with the surfers standing on their boards on top of the rolling waves.
Secret Beach
Our second destination was the Secret Beach or Guiwan Beach. This spot has an amazing and relaxing ambience because it is landscaped with palm and talisay trees, with green grass on the ground. Guiwan Beach is surrounded by cool and crystal waters, perfect for sunbathing.
Coconut View Deck
While were were en route to Pacifico, we passed by the roads decorated with draft live mango trees and tall coconut trees present on both sides, such a gorgeous landscape. Then, we also passed by the Coconut Plantation, or others call it coconut road, which is another top destination in Siargao. On this spot, the sea breeze is cool and fresh, with a wide view of the countless coconut trees and mountain slopes.
The Pacifico
Photo taken at Pacifico Beach, Siargao. Our last destination was the famous Pacifico, the biggest surfing spot in Siargao. Very self-explanatory, its name is given because it is facing the Pacific Ocean; having said that, the waves here are for expert surfers. The gigantic waves are powerful and can easily wipe out someone. We stayed there for an hour. Had some cold drinks, and we headed back to HappyNest while the sun was setting. Though my journey here lasted overnight, I was able to grasp what the island can offer to tourists and visitors. I was able to see the lifestyle of the smallest locals to the most expensive hotels and resorts. I know and will definitely be back here for a longer stay.
Where to Stay in Siargao
The most popular area to stay is in General Luna, where you’ll find a wide range of accommodations from hostels to resorts.
- Budget: Dorm beds or guesthouses near Tourism Road. Book Hang Loose Hostel.
- Mid-range: Beachfront cottages and boutique hotels. Book Siargao Seasky Resort.
- Luxury: Villas with private pools or beachfront resorts. Book The Henry Resort Siargao.

Travel Tips for Siargao
- Best time to visit: March to October (dry season), September for the best surf
- Bring cash — limited ATMs in the area
- Book flights and hotels early during peak season
- Respect local culture and marine life — no trash!
- Consider renting a scooter to get around
Final Thoughts
Siargao is more than just a surfer’s paradise — it’s a place where you can reconnect with nature, explore tropical wonders, and experience warm Filipino hospitality.
