Batangas in prominent with their beautiful beaches and outstanding underwater activities but if you want to strike two different destinations in one day, it is possible. Not so far from the shoreline of San Juan, Batangas, you can find Mt. Daguldol, one of the hiking destinations in the province. This mountain is one of their assets in terms of mountain ranges with beaches on the background. Daguldol is perfect for first time hikers because the trail is simple to moderate, but the beauty on the summit was remarkably beautiful.
THE TRAILS OF MT. DAGULDOL: The terrain is clean and the trails are well established because it is also being used by the locals. Not just by the people but also horses, carabaos and cows used for transporting crops to the low lands. Having said that, expect a muddy and slippery trail during wet season. There are hardwood and fruit bearing trees, coconuts, bananas and other plants surrounding the trails. There are assault (some parts) and hopping on and off the boulders.
TTHE SUMMIT AND THE CAMPSITE OF MT. DAGULDOL: Mt. Daguldol is almost the same with Mt. Gulugod Baboy. The summit is a wide open area, covered with green grass. The breeze is fresh is cool, fresh and relaxing. On top, there's a wide view of the coastal areas of Batangas. Aside from being a campsite, it is also a place where the cows and horses are pastured. A lot of poops scattered in the area, so it is advisable to bring and turn on your head lamps during overnight.
THE SIDETRIP: After the super hot and tiring hike, it's time for us to enjoy the cold and refreshing waters in Batangas. In Brgy. Hugom, there are a lot of beach resorts and hotels available, depending on your budget. There are resort operators who offer services like scuba diving and island hopping for a friendly price.
HOW TO GET TO MT. DAGULDOL: We rode in Alps Bus (Cubao-EDSA) going to Alps Terminal in San Juan, Batangas. Approximately 3 hours travel. From Alps terminal, we chartered a tricycle going to Brgy. Hugom. Travel time: 1 hour 10 minutes.
GOING BACK TO MANILA: We chartered an L300 Van going to Lipa City, Batangas;. Van Rental: 1,500 pesos. Travel Period: 1 hour and 40 minutes. The new terminal in Lipa is located in SM City - SM City Grand Terminal.
