Caramoan is one of the Philippines’ last remaining unspoiled destinations—a hidden paradise known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, secluded white-sand beaches, and world-class island-hopping adventures. Famous as a filming location for several seasons of Survivor, Caramoan remains raw, serene, and breathtakingly beautiful, perfect for those seeking a quiet yet unforgettable tropical getaway.
Located at the far eastern tip of Camarines Sur, Caramoan forms a rugged peninsula blessed with pristine beaches, limestone karst formations, enchanting lagoons, and crystal-blue waters. The area is protected and relatively isolated, allowing nature to thrive.
Caramoan gained international attention after hosting several international editions of the reality TV show Survivor, but despite its rising fame, the island proudly keeps its rustic charm and peaceful ambiance.
How to Get There
Option 1: Via Naga City (Most Common)
- From Manila, ride a bus or flight to Naga City.
- From Naga, take a van/bus to Sabang Port (1.5–2 hours).
- Ride a boat from Sabang Port to Guijalo Port in Caramoan (2 hours).
- Rent a tricycle to your hotel or town proper.
Option 2: Via Virac, Catanduanes (Faster for some travelers)
- Fly to Virac Airport.
- Travel via jeep or van to Codon Port.
- Take a boat to Caramoan (30–45 minutes only).
In our case, we chartered a van with driver to Camarines Sur.

Caramoan Island Hopping
There are Caramoan Island tour packages offered only but we chose a private tour, so we chartered a van. Met in Crossing and traveled almost twelve hours just to witness the world-renounced group of islands in Bicol region. Arrived in Brgy. Paniman at around 10:40 AM. Bought and packed our supplies at the market nearby. Had a break. And at around 12:30 PM, we proceeded to the first islet.
1. Minalahos Island
Minalahos Island is a long stretch of cream-colored sand with emerald waters. Also, home to several Survivor production sites. We arrived at 12:46 PM and it was our first destination. This islet is small and has limited space for visitors, but the rock formations are gorgeous. The plants and hanging on the rocks also added a beautiful landscape. Had our photo shoot on the rock formation for thirty minutes and proceeded to our next destination.
Some of the islands are privately owned, developing them to gorgeous resorts. These private resorts are surrounded by luscious greens and with a stretch of fine white sand beach – considered as a relaxing paradise.
2. Matukad Island
Matukad Island is known for its powdery white sand, crystalline water, towering limestone walls, and famous for its hidden lagoon guarded by the legendary “giant milkfish”—a popular Caramoan folklore. We arrived here around 1:40 PM. This island is special among others because of its long stretch of fine white sand, and crystalline water, surrounded by greeneries and the wind is cool and fresh. Instead of renting an air-conditioned room on the mainland, we camped by the beach. Of course, that’s me posing with the stretch of beautiful fine white sand beach and rock formation in the background.
Woke up at around 5 AM, and the dark skies started fading and turned into golden, and then blue. Prepared our breakfast and set our minds for our next adventures. After breakfast, while we still own the island, we ascend to the steep, sharp boulders to see the famous “bangus” in the lagoon.
At the lagoon, there’s a huge bangus living in the water. According to Ato, our resident historian “kuno,” this bangus is considered a mystical creature. According to him, there were two living in the water of the lagoon, but someone caught it, and that person died. That's it! We only stayed on top of the rock for thirty minutes, then descent, and breakcamp for our next destination.
3. Lahos Island
Lahos Island is a unique double-sided beach where waves meet in the middle. Perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and photo sessions. It was our first destination on second day. It is also one of the prominent because of its amazing rock formation, fine white sand, and crystal-clear water. Upon arrival, dried seaweeds were scattered by the beach because of the typhoon. It was tiring so we headed back to the mainland for lunch.
Upon arrival at the mainland, we headed to the market and bought fresh seafood. Foods were prepared by our tour guide/bangkero. He’s such a good cook. After eating, rested for thirty minutes and proceeded to our next destination.
4. Manlawi Island
Manlawi Island is a peaceful islet with an amazing shape. During our visit, it was heart shape, however, visiting this sandbar is very crucial because it disappears during high tide. Our bangkero knows the accurate time (12NN), so we experienced its goodness for a few minutes.
6. Cotivas Island
Cotivas Island is a secluded beach accessible via boat, featuring dramatic landscape and crystal-clear waters. This island is beside the island with the lighthouse owned by the rich and prominent people in the country. According to friends, this is similar to Kalanggaman Island.
7. Sabitang Laya Island
Sabitang Laya Island is a small island ideal for snorkeling, cliff-view photography, and shallow swimming with views of limestone cliffs. Same as the other islets, it has crystal clear waters, and amazing rock formation but has a longer stretch of fine white sand. We stayed there for thirty minutes and headed back to the mainland.
