Mt. Malipunyo, Batangas

Mt. Malipunyo

About Mt. Malipunyo

Rising majestically in the town of Lipa, Batangas, Mt. Malipunyo is an adventure that challenges both the body and spirit. Known for its steep trails, mossy forests, and multiple river crossings, this mountain is a thrilling climb for seasoned hikers seeking a rugged and raw outdoor experience. At the summit, adventurers are rewarded with sweeping views of Mt. Maculot, Mt. Makiling, and the rolling landscapes of Southern Luzon, making the trek worth every step.

It is one of the hiking destinations in Batangas because of the stunning views and extraordinary experiences that can be found on the trails of this mountain. Mt. Malarayat or Malepunyo is another name given to the Malipunyo ranges in Southern Luzon. Proximity-wise wise from Manila and nearby provinces, it's a big check. Furthermore, it is also considered “first-timer friendly,” as it has simple to moderate trail types. The terrain is abundant, with different types of trees and colourful flowers that serve as a paradise for wildlife.

We processed the registration at the Welcome Arch of Brgy. Talisay and proceeded to the jump off. We hired Tatay Muring as our guide; he’s a friend of our tricycle driver. From the subdivision, it was a long walk passing by the different villages where the residents' houses were far from each other. The next part was a regular trail but still ascending. The area smells good because of the blooming coffee flowers and the locals' livelihood. The terrain is rich in vegetation, and the ambience is refreshing. We passed by a river with crystal clear water flowing - refreshing, cool, and tastes good.

There are Lipa and rattan plans on the trail. They are scattered everywhere because, according to our guide, the government is pushing the residents to plant more rattan in the area for some reasons. Also, on the trail, we saw something strange but looked interesting; it was the source of one of the most expensive coffees on earth – Civet Cat Coffee.

Mt. Malipunyo's campsite is a long, narrow, and clean area. There are openings or "durungawan" where the mountain ranges from the nearby provinces are visible. Though the area has a small opening, it is enough for the cool and refreshing to pass through. Not only that, there are tall grasses and shrubs surrounding the area, so insect repellents are highly recommended.

How to Get to Mt. Malipunyo

What we did was take an air-conditioned bus bound for the Tambo Exit. Travel Time: 1 hour, 25 minutes. In front of Jollibee-Tambo, we rode in a jeep coaster going to Fiesta Mall. Then, we chartered a tricycle going to Brgy. Talisay. Just tell the driver that you’re going to “Malipunyo.” For private cars: Use your Google Maps or Waze to make everything easy. It's a long drive along SLEX, STAR tollway, and take the Lipa Tambo exit. Take JP Laurel to Fiesta Mall.
