Tinuy-An Falls

The Tinuy-an Falls is the top tourist attraction in Bislig, Surigao del Sur. It is a huge waterfall with cool and crystal clear waters and is surrounded by greens that create the area a gorgeous and relaxing landscape. The ambiance is so cool, with the fresh air blowing. By the way, most part of the waterfalls are accessible, including the pool area. Water rafts, with a guide, can be rented.

Backpacking in Surigao del Sur (5 Best Tourist Spots)

Our original plan was to hike Mt. Dulang-dulang and Mt. Kitanglad, but because of the question: “gusto nyo ba?” it was changed to backpacking in Northern Mindanao. It happened for a very, very short time. So from Malaybalay, Bukidnon, we rode a bus with a Cagayan signboard and alighted at Agora Terminal. Then, we rode another bus with a Butuan signboard and alighted at their central terminal. Then, another bus ride to Bislig, Surigao del Sur. Below was our 5-day backpacking trip in Mindanao covering Surigao, Agusan del Norte, and Camiguin.

HAGONOY ISLAND, Surigao del Sur - a 2025 Travel Guide

Be transformed as you meditate at the garden of vines that heals every soul’s weary at the Hagonoy Island – that’s their slogan here. This islet is really small, just a hundred meters long or maybe less, but it has a fine white sand shore and is surrounded by crystal clear waters. Hagonoy is an islet with few coconuts and trees, so expect a darker skin tone after your visit because of the sun rays. It is the cutest among the Britania Group of Islets.

The Britania Islands are just a few of the hidden paradises of San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. These are like huge boulders dropped into the water, and the fine white sand exploded from the sea bed. Every islet is surrounded by crystal clear waters and fine white sand. There are several islets, but we only reached a few because of the high tide. If you're in Surigao del Sur, add this group of islands to your bucket list.

International Doll House (Museum), Surigao

The International Doll House was mentioned by John, our guide. Somehow familiar because we already saw it on TV. John encouraged us to visit this this amazing place by giving us details of what are displayed inside. According to him, there are dolls with gold on the head, there’s a toy motorcycle with a value of 2.5 million pesos and many more. So we thought, it's worth to visit. 

Libuacan Cold Spring, a perfect summer destination

Libuacan is a river system with cold, crystalline water that flows freely and is surrounded by relaxing greens. Since the area is surrounded by trees, the ambience is really cool and relaxing; everything seems to be fresh. It was our second option because the famous Enchanted River was closed due to renovations, but that's fine; there will always be a perfect time for us. 

The Naked Island in Surigao

Experience the naked paradise of the Naked Island, one of the islets of the Britania Group of Islands, Surigao del Sur. I know you're thinking of something green, don't you? You're wrong! The name of this islet is derived from its characteristic - naked, which means that nothing can be found except the stretch of fine white sand. It's very short, more or less 10 meters, depending on whether it's high tide or low tide. 

HIYOR-HIYORAN ISLAND, Britania Group of Islands, Surigao del Sur

Hiyor-hiyoran is another stunning islands of the Britania Group of Islands in Surigao del Sur. It is also called the souvenir island because among islands, Hiyor-hiyoran is the only one with souvenir shops built by the beach, well' that's so far. Same as the other islands, it also has fine white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and gorgeous limestone formation. Very Instagrammable.

BOSLON ISLAND, Britania Group of Islands, Surigao del Sur

Walk with happiness on the fine white sand that cover on the shore of Boslon Island. This islet is like a huge boulder dropped in the water. Because of the pressured, the fine white sand exploded and became - Boslon Island. Well, that's only my own story. Anyways, this islet is circular in shape, with plants and trees hanging on top of the gigantic boulder, creating a cool atmosphere in the area. This islet is the usual "pahingahan" of the tourists. Very conyo no??

Before the Human Drone Got Famous

I can still remember the classic words like Fujifilm, AGFA, as endorsed by Aga Mulach, analog/film camera, rewind, pa-develop, pa re-copy, wag buksan baka ma-expose, and many others. It was in 2002 when I was able to use and capture a photo using my friend's digital camera. After fifteen years, here we are with the touch screen technology, hundred Millimeter lenses, filters, image stabilizers, underwater capabilities, more memory, and of course, the latest, which is the flying capabilities.

5 Days Backpacking in Mindanao (Surigao, Agusan, Camiguin)
