An NSO or PSA Certified Birth Certificate is one of the most important documents that you should furnish from the government. Birth certificates are needed for employment, school, and to request other IDs. So, to get 1 valid ID, you should submit 2 valid IDs. Hahaha. Despite the fast technology, let's accept the reality that requesting documents from the government agencies needs more time and effort. To resolve this old problem, government agencies like NBI, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, DFA, and other offices placed their kiosk inside the SM Supermalls and Robinsons nationwide.
Yesterday, as a school requirement, my sister asked me to get a copy of her original NSO birth certificate. I was thinking that NSO birth certificates can still be requested from the National Statistics Office on East Avenue, Quezon City; I've been there several times to get my own copy, but nowadays, it's simpler. After research, I found out that NSO birth certificates can also be requested from SM Supermalls, again, that's nationwide. I chose SM Megamall, 3rd Floor, together with the payment centers.
How to Request an NSO Birth Certificate at SM:
- Get the NSO form from the customer service and fill it out.
- Information needed is are complete name, mother's maiden name, date of birth, and place of birth.
Upon claiming, please take note that if you are requesting for your parents and sisters, no need for an authorization letter, but if you are requesting/claiAn ming for your pamangkins and other relatives, you need to bring an authorization letter and a valid ID of the owner and the representative/requester. Processing will be 7 working days!

ReplyDeleteThis is super helpful! It’s funny how we still need multiple valid IDs just to get another valid ID—classic PH government requirements . But true enough, even with all the tech advancements, processing documents still takes time and patience. Good thing SM and Robinsons have kiosks now; it really saves a lot of hassle compared to going all the way to the main offices.
ReplyDeleteAlso, thanks for sharing the step-by-step process! The reminder about authorization letters is important—ang daming nababalik just because they missed that. And speaking of government documents, doing an online NBI appointment really makes things easier too. At least some processes are getting more convenient.
Overall, very informative post!
Nice and very informative. thanks to share with us.
ReplyDeleteThis is really helpful, especially for people who still think they need to go directly to PSA/NSO offices. Getting documents through SM malls definitely saves time and effort. Government paperwork in the Philippines can be stressful, so guides like this make things much easier to understand.
ReplyDeleteBirth certificates are actually one of the most common requirements when applying for other documents too — employment, school records, passports, and even clearances. When I was processing documents recently, I noticed that after PSA documents, the next thing many people need is an NBI clearance for job and official use.
For those who are also preparing for that step, I found this resource useful for understanding the process and requirements:

Having the right information beforehand really helps avoid delays and repeat visits.
Great post! A lot of people still assume they have to visit PSA/NSO main offices, so it’s good to know that SM malls make the process more accessible. Government document requests can be time-consuming, so options like this really help, especially for students and job applicants.
ReplyDeleteBirth certificates are usually just the first step, since they’re required for many other applications like school records, passports, and employment documents. When I was arranging my papers, I noticed that after PSA documents, many people also move on to getting their clearance for work and official transactions.
