After our overnight camping in Anawangin Cove, we crossed the waters of Zambales. Our plan was to hike to the Capones Lighthouse, but unable to do it because I was tired. 😊 Situated on Capones Island, this lighthouse was constructed in 1890 and lit on 01 August 1890 to guide local and international sea vessels. Until today, it still performs its role. By the way, the photo above was taken at the shoreline of Capones Island.
Cape Engaño Lighthouse
Its construction started on 21 September 1888 and was completed on 31 December 1892. Like other lighthouses, its primary function is to serve as a guide to the sea vessel navigators who are crossing the Babuyan Channel. According to the Jamorabon family, who served as the caretakers for a long time, the name Engaño was given by the Spaniards because they were stunned by its natural beauty when they first set foot on the cape. Today, it still serves as a guide to seafarers and local fishermen. There's a spot on the tower where Dos Hermanas Island can be seen, which serves as an amazing backdrop.
HIS Capsule Hostel
An early morning photo of HIS Capsule Hostel. |
Upon arrival at HIS Capsule Hostel, I was welcomed by their accommodating receptionists. Provided the house rules and booked. Their facilities are clean and organized. They have double deck beds, separated by walls, and the opening is covered with a curtain for privacy. Ventilation and air-conditioning units are suitable. They have a small cafeteria where you can socialize with the others, shower rooms with heaters, and toilets are clean and well maintained. They even have lockers to secure your belongings. They are the most accommodating hotel staff in my 6 Days of solo backpacking in Region 8. I asked them several questions, and they responded promptly (THUMBS UP!!!). Also, the rates of HIS Capsule Hostel are budget-friendly. Not only that, Agoda Review is in 10.0, which is Exceptional. It is definitely one of the most affordable places to stay in Tacloban City. McArthur Landing Memorial Park
The McArthur Landing Memorial Park in Palo, Leyte, is one of the most visited landmarks in the Province or even in the Philippines; this is to commemorate the historical landing of General Douglas MacArthur. The actual landing in October of 1944 was the start of the liberation of the Philippines from the Japanese occupation – the Second World War. The statues were created by Anastacio Caedo. The significance of this park can be read on the historical markers placed in front of the park. Read: Featuring Leyte Province - Solo-Backpacking in Region 8
San Juanico Bridge

Another landmark and certified destination in the Province of Leyte is the longest San Juanico Bridge, connecting the provinces of Leyte to Samar; this bridge was built during the Ferdinand Marcos administration. Inaugurated on 02 July 1973, it was a gift to Imelda Marco's birthday. Today, this bridge provides a huge help to the region's means of transportation and, at the same time, invites more tourists and visitors. Globe GFiber Prepaid versus Sky Broadband

A speed test result for GFiber Prepaid and Sky Broadband. |
As mentioned in my previous post, SKY Fiber Home Internet: You Need to Know, I am not really happy with Sky Broadband. Because of the inconsistent service I am getting, Plan 999 is not worth it for a single-dwelling apartment! With that experience, this is where Globe's GFiber Prepaid comes in. It started in the Facebook group, but when they offered a 1 Peso promo for the installation fee, I grabbed it and had it installed.
SKY Fiber Home Internet: You Need to know

#WhatsOnSKY Sky is the cheapest postpaid Fiber Plan and Cable Service provider in the Philippines. There's a struggle for mobile reception in the area, so I have no choice but to connect to a Fiber line. I've signed up for Plan 999 and used their service since June 2021. In general, the broadband service in the country could be better. Like other internet providers, Sky had service interruptions due to system upgrades and maintenance. Although the speed or quality of service remains the same after those technical works, hhmm, probably, they are improving their service. The real problem started in June 2024, that's after Converge took over Sky. Update: On December 26, 2024, I began using Globe GFiber Prepaid Plan 699, and the result was very good. Surigao del Norte Tourist Spots
1. Siargao Island
In Surigao del Norte, you can find the "surfing capital of the Philippines." This tear-shaped island is the top destination in the province of Surigao del Norte. It is indeed a surfer's paradise because of the gigantic waves but if you're not into surfing, like me, you can still enjoy the pristine beaches, explorable caves, fresh surroundings, and unique island lifestyle. With time pressure, from the province of Dinagat Islands, I traveled here to discover its beauty. Read: 3000 Pesos Solo-Backpacking in Siargao.
Featuring Agusan del Sur - Solo-Backpacking in Mindanao
It was Day 7 when I visited the beautiful Province of Agusan del Sur. The province doesn't have coastal areas, so the only purpose of my visit was to discover the stunning Bega Falls. Its name is derived from a local word, "Bega", which literally translates to "flirt" in English. According to the local folk story, the area is the home of the mystical women. One that is sure, Bega Falls, is picture-perfect because of its majestic landscape. From the crystal clear waters free flowing from the towering limestone cliffs carpeted with ferns and mosses. The strong water pressure created a natural pool at the base that serves as a swimming pool.
